Jackie did believe that there was no future in being in the Sun On Yee, but he wasn't able to get out in time. Wei's best friend and probably the only real friend he had left in Hong Kong was gone. I remember how shocked and horrified I was to see Jackie's lifeless body hanging there with his guts ripped open. Then when he finally decides to cut ties with the Sun On Yee, he gets kidnapped and tortured again but this time until death. Then he gets arrested and spends some amount of time in jail only to be kidnapped and tortured the same day he gets out. Quite a contrast to Wei who at that point has killed possibly hundreds of people.
It made him sick to his stomach and he said he had been having trouble sleeping ever since that incident. Especially when he ended up killing someone for the first time. Despite how much he wanted to be part of it and move up in the rankings, when that actually started happening he began to have second thoughts about it. You see him become disillusioned with the Sun On Yee over time as he keeps noticing all of the bad things going on with them. Johnny Ratface and Dogeyes deserved even worse than what she did to them. Chu grieving at a table in front of a photo of Winston. Then for the rest of the game if you visit the Golden Koi kitchen you can find Mrs. and I guess that technically came true in the worst way possible. Peggy wanted that black orchid since it supposedly guarantees that a couple would stay together for the rest of their lives. They were really great friends and seeing them die on their wedding day was heartbreaking. Even Winston's mother approved of Wei as well. He considered him to be true family, with Peggy pushing that point even further while also emphasizing Winston's softer side. It was at that point where Winston was really warming up to Wei. Winston and Peggy's deaths were definitely hard pills to swallow.
